Giving

Want to get involved?

Jesus spoke extensively about money? 16 of His parables referred to money and possessions. The Bible has more than 2,500 verses relating to money. Surely this teaches that our money truly belongs to God and in God blessing us with this bounty, we should consistently and joyfully use a portion of it to the advance of His Kingdom, bring joy and comfort to those in need, through the church.

Stewardship

  • How can I become a Steward of God?

Stewardship is an important focus within our parish, and we know that there is a need to take care of God’s creation and serving God and the interest of His Kingdom, is key to all that life will ever demand.

    1 Peter 4:10

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.

    Colossians 3:23-24

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

  • Tithing

The Bible tells us that tithing is a way to show that we trust God with our lives and our finances. However, the tithe wasn’t put in place for God’s benefit, He already owns everything. Tithing is meant for our benefit because sacrificing a portion of our income helps us look outside our selfishness and makes us more aware of the needs of others.

According to Leviticus 27:30, “A tenth of the produce of the land, whether grain or fruit, is the Lord’s, and is holy.” Proverbs 3:9 says, “Honour the Lord with your wealth, with the first-fruits of all your crops.” The gardening metaphors may throw you off but these verses are essentially saying to give a portion, specifically a tenth of your total income, back to God. First-fruits is just a biblical way of saying that you should give to God first, before you do anything else with your money.

Tithing is an act of faith that helps us keep our priorities straight. It reminds us that we don’t own anything in this life. God is in control, and we’re only managers of what He’s given us.

We don’t give to get, but God often blesses us with more if we’re good managers of what we already have. Tithing recognizes that God is our provider and that we will prosper with more than just money if we rely on Him.

This is our pledge to God.

Soup Kitchen

  • What type of donations can I make?

Our soup kitchen has a team of devout Christians who give of their time and finances. You too can make a difference by donating financially, supplying the necessary ingredients required to provide this meal or offering your time to serve the meals. How much does not matter, your giving makes a difference.

  • Can I donate services?

We have many who offer their skills in preparing the meals while others assist in serving the meals. We also have those who provide the transport to collect the prepared meals and deliver it either to the church or the venue. You too can assist in these ways as there are never too many hands. Most importantly, speak to us about what your skills and resources are. God’s Kingdom needs you.

  • How can I donate?

To make a donation, contact the parish on 021 797 2204 between 08h00 and 16h00, Monday to Friday. Our parish secretary will guide you in the right direction. Financial donations can be made directly into the parish bank account or via Snapscan. Remember to be clear in your reference as to the allocation of your donation.

  • Is there a tax deduction for donations?

Yes there is as St Faith’s is a registered PBO. The South African Revenue Services provides guidelines for tax rebates pertaining to donations, the thresholds and qualifying organisations.

    The Covid-19 pandemic

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a major impact on our lives. We have families in the Church and surrounds that have been negatively affected by the pandemic. A  group of volunteers have come forward and make up Food hampers for the families who have been affected by the pandemic. These are the items needed for the Food hampers.

    TITHES

Tithes are used to pay salaries and the general day-to-day running of the church. (Num 18:21, 1 Tim 5:17-18; 1 Cor 9:14). The word ‘tithe’ means ‘a tenth’, so by definition it is 10% of one’s total income. The Bible speaks of bringing tithes “into the storehouse” (Mal 3:10); the first fruits of our income go to the place where we are spiritually fed, watched over and cared for – the local church that we are a part of. We believe that tithing still applies in the New Testament, as it is a practise which predates the law (Gen 14 & 28), and is one that Jesus affirms (Matt 23:23).

    OFFERINGS

Offering, or contribution, is a free-will gift amount brought to the local church over and above the tithe (Mal 3:8). These too contribute to the general running of the church but also assist in the maintenance and upkeep of the facilities.

    ALMS

Jesus taught that we should give generously to the needy, especially “to those who are of the household of faith” (Gal 6:10). One of the best ways to give to the less fortunate and destitute, is to do so through the local church. These donations further God’s ministry through bringing comfort where it is needed.

    SKILLS

Skills, time, resources, networks, these are areas of giving that have unfathomable potential and value. These avenues of giving can serve the Kingdom in ways we cannot imagine.

  • Can I donate services?

Serving is not only about meeting a physical need, it is also about fulfilling a spiritual need. People need prayer. They need to hear the Good News. They need someone to listen. There are many ways in which you can donate your services, yes through skills, knowledge, networks and finances but also through love. Let’s chat and see where God wants to use you.

  • Is there a tax deduction for donations?

Yes there is, as St Faith’s is a registered PBO. The South African Revenue Services provides guidelines for tax rebates pertaining to donations, the thresholds and qualifying organisations.
